It was indeed a lovely day today.. my hometown meeting. 24 degrees celcius, sun all over the place. From Axel over Citroen B all the way up to ZX and everything inbetween....

My old snail passed about 40 times today.... on the back of a steamtrain wagon    now how many people can say that........

Post Havy vibrations in steering rack..
Ok. I need some help here...

The front wheels and steering wheel on my old snail are havy vibrating when I'm driving over 50 km/h. The only thing I can do then is reduce speed to about 40 km/h and then it stops.

What did I do sofar......... what not...

First I changed the left suspencion arm, nothing
Then I changed the left crossjoint (old type had to much play) and yes I lined them up as they should be (miror the inner to the other join)... nothing

Then i changed the right suspencion arm... nothing
Then I changed the left wheel.... nothing
Then I changed the right wheel.... nothing

So this evening I took the front axle out of the car to investigate the steeringrack...

Now for me it looks nice and has almost no play. The only thing I can notice is that when I
push the right wheel to the left the steering arms is pushed into the steering rack giving it play. So can anybody tell me what pieces an old steering rack needs???? I know the reqtangle rubber isn't used at the old snails like mine (1955)....

and now some (lowsy) pics....

Thanks, yes they are... at the right one I just can feel play comming up so for a 60 years old car it is nice, however I will adjust it tonight....(I think these old 2cv's are of much better quality parts then the newer)

Studying this picture everything is looking allright, square slidingblocks?? are as new; ball-bolts?? are new with almost no play, play in the spring is about .5mm so allright for me.. The only thing I noticed thinking about it, is the sliding plates where very loose, the scews of the sliding-roll??? (geleidepijp voor stuurkogels) where also loose too, so I hope this is my problem... Tonight I will put it together as it should be and hopefully the problem is solved...

fingers crossed...

I think the former owner has messed up in this case as he did with the nut at the driveshaft..
The nut used on the driveshaft wasn't Original, only the the split pin was holding everything together. At the MOT station my left front wheel had an angle of 15 degrees, almost lost it
the driveshaft was disconnected already so couldn't drive anymore.....
I think it is the same story with this.....

Replace the geleidering on the tandheugel, and possibly the geleidepijp.
