Post Body Rot
I replaced the body side rails on my 1963 Fourgonette Model 'A' about 4 years ago. One side I attached with steel pop rivets, the other with normal aluminium pop rivets. Oh wo is me. The steel side is OK, but the one attached with aly pops has all but fallen off. :o In essence, I have made a battery (iron/aluminium/iron) add a little water and we should have about 1.2volts. The iron (steel) and rivet (aluminium) become sacrificial.

I guess we should all think about the above if using a pop rivet in a semi critical positional.

Or weld them on, like Citroen did.

2nd that! Plug weld, unless u can spot them. Dissimilar metal is always a disaster, I have a steel boat, in salt water even the welds take an exception to the mild plate and start a cell!

 you seem like an intelligent person from the rest of the post, why did you think that pop rivets were ok for ANY critical position ?

I don't know of anybody else saw the post on face ache, but somebody posted about 21st century tech meeting a 1960s body shell; he'd bonded the A panels onto the A pillar in order to prevent a rust trap... :?

there is a gunnable bond for car body panels , under written by the motor trade and an approved method for replacing large panels on modern cars - granted its probably for the un weldable boron steel and there is stringent prep and application process for it to be guaranteed
