Tried a mixture of molasses and citric acid on the last one* but the oven cleaner for the body and citric for the brass jets has it looking like new

surprising how cheap they turn up with " faults" - so far the faults have been torn top gasket, bypass and air jet choked with earth! and evidence of water in the float bowls which is a major headache with these carbs due to the primary drilling being down a well at the bottom of the float bowl so every last piece of crap gets drawn through the jets.
apart from that 2 carbs phenolic resonator material - just need couple of filters and some time to modify a couple of manifolds and a bucket of jets

*brown sauce

Drove the 80 odd miles down to Sumburgh Head to look for penguins (sister told me a work colleague of her's asked if there were penguins in Shetland!!! Lol). Close, but they're puffins. Heading home soon.

 I thought penguins only lived in the Southern Hemisphere :? ......and Herma Ness had 100's of Puffins when I visited the Shetlands.....[ps,watch for those "bonxy bird" things .....they're evil this time of the year ;) ]

Very true, penguins are Southern Hemisphere only, that's why I found the comment funny. Hermaness does indeed have a colony of puffins, but they're much nearer and easier to see at Sumburgh (if it hadn't been so foggy yesterday). Bonxies (Great Skuas) are evil. Lol!

Poor starting has reared its ugly head again. Was starting perfectly down in Worcester, but since I returned to Shetland it's got progressively worse. Can only think it's the climate, as it was acting up before going south and nothing has been changed part from altering the idle mixture, which was far too weak. :? What the hell can it be?

Check and/or swap every part of the ignition system, start with the easy accessible, like coil and leads.
