Post Re: The Dirty 'D'
This maybe a stupid question but as i have put the battery into the rear i plan to just earth it onto the chassis and earth the gearbox in the same way, is this ok to do? It's how i would run this setup on a vw.... unless there is a reason why it must be earthed on the gearbox...

Thanks Ben....

Now in the process of chopping down the front arms, really not as bad as i expected.. 60mm each side..

I should think it would be fine - all your lights etc are earthed to the body which goes back to the gearbox.

Wire from battery earth to chassis and from chassis to gearbox is ok... This is how it's done on a Sahara (with the rear engine) and this is how I did it with my Ami 4x4 (batterybox in the rearwing)..

You can make a wire directly from gearbox connection to the groundpin at the firewall (e=where all earth wires come together).

However try to make the + wire as thick as you can otherwise a lot of current is lost over the distance.....
and your starter engine will be poor.....

As already posted re using heavy wire,I'd go for the same as used for battery cable and make sure it can't chaff on anything,to avoid any risk of a shortout and a fire :-) MGB's function ok with their batteries in the boot and they had a pair of 6volt,so more wire !!!

Well it had to happen the start of the year and work got in the way and slowed progress on my Dyane..
At last it was time to cut down the front arms and rotate the king pins....

Pie cut back down to be a tight fit back on the king pin and rotated and lined up back on the car...

Then the pie cuts welded and fully seam welded back into place....
