I'm onboard the MV Hjaltland and heading for Shetland. An easy and uneventful journey till I got to Aberdeen. Lots of traffic and a mad dash for the last mile.

Made it home without incident, apart from a panic on the car deck of the ferry from Aberdeen to Shetland this morning. Took about a minute to start the car. It's been perfect whilst in Worcester, even after being left for a few weeks without use. Seriously beginning to think it's the climate.

Anyway, I'd left the C4 up here and it hasn't been used for quite a while, so when it came time to move it earlier the battery was as flat as a witch's tit. :-( I knew it was suspect as the short distance to work tended to make for a laboured start if I didn't take it for a good run every so often. I had to jump it off the 2CV but it seems to have charged up okay. Its restarted four or five times after a good twenty mile run.

Epic journey .....I envy you  ....was the 2CV ok starting to get off the deck of the other two ferries? .....maybe its the damp climate? [I once had a Dyane that hated "damp" ....I never found what the problem/answer was ......I sold it and bought another].....or maybe your poor ol' 2CV was choking on all the other cars fumes in the car deck?

btw.....thats one thing I find scary about my C4 coupe .....if the battery goes flat, how do you get into it? ........my C4 is kept in the garage, and there is no space at all on the [L/H] passenger side to get to the door if the battery goes flat......is your C4 is one of the cars Citroen {in their wisdom  } conveniently "forgot" to put a keyhole on the drivers {R/H} side door too?]

best regards
T.

Thanks Terry, wish I'd used the BX seats though. Lol 2CV was okay on the Shetland inter-island ferries, the one ferry takes twenty minutes and the other one around ten or so, so engine doesn't get cold. C4 had just enough power to operate locking. Phew! Lol I also put it in the garage, up against the wall, so that would have presented me with an even greater problem if I couldn't remotely unlock it. Another (stupid) thing I did when I put the car in the garage was pull the handbrake on. I never do that if leaving a car for a few weeks. Needless to say it was seized on!!! Fortunetly, it freed up after a few hundred yards. Phew part 2!!! Will be attempting to start both cars at some point today, so keeping fingers crossed.

Having now had the opportunity to start both cars I can report that each started under its own power without issue. Though the 2CV did put up a little resistance initially, so it must be something up here it doesn't like.
The weather in Shetland today is bloody gorgeous! So I'm out and about with the hood fully open. I'm just parked by the world famous Unst Bus Shelter. This years theme is Nelson Mandela.

Just spent the last 4 hours with Rick Pembro working on the car. Steering rack rebuilt, both steering arms replaced, 2cv boots changed, middle gaiters changed, knife edges removed cleaned and greased, heads torqued and valve clearances set. Busy day!
