As I'm down in Worcester with the 2CV I partook in ARTists' Drive It Day convoy around the roads of Gloucestershire and Herefordshire. It was meant to be a combined convoy with the Cotswolds Citroen Specials Club, but they chickened out. About 6 2CVs and a Dyane.

We were one of the 2cvs, the red and white D0lly. Good carvery for lunch at a garden centre. A pretty good turnout considering the weather. The Specials left their cars at the camp and squeezed into cars with roofs (or is that rooves?)

Drained the oil and the plug looked like a Christmas tree!!! Took the top cover off and had a look. Gears look fine (never had trouble changing gear etc) BUT when I engaged a gear and slowly turned the road wheel not only do the gears go around but they move up and down. Think the rear bearing has gone (at least). Will strip out engine tomorrow and box (weather permitting - working outside)

After earlier post had a 2 hour window in the rain so took engine/box out. Took box apart and found the following good points - diff and its bearings good, gears good. Now the bad - 1 output bearing totally gone, the other is a tiny bit rough. Rear bearing where the speedo drive has around 2mm play and the balls are not round. Will totally strip it tomorrow. It seems very straight forward....

With just the bonnet (no bumper, wings, panels, lamps nor bar) I drove out of the garage and into the street so that I could pull the dustbin through the garage We had a few funny looks from passers-by  Hadn't started it for a while (the fuel filter was empty) so I squirted something flammable into the airbox
I've actually made a start on stripping some of the paintwork on the bits that I'm having refurbished: I spent a while in the afternoon sun with a tin of Nitromors and a wire brush attachment on the drill, going at the headlamp bar

Stripped the box down totally. Very straight forward... Parts needed - rear bearing, small needle bearing and hub bearings and seals etc. Total 137 euros from MCDA.
Not too bad....
