Today's query - The throttle on the carb (standard late 80s sole) doesn't return very well and gets stuck - if you floor the peddle it stays there... why?

I've changed return springs and tested my spring on my 'reference vehicle' (some pikey's yellow club) and it worked ok so it's not the spring.

Dirty grimy carb? Or is this to do with the setup at the bulkhead?

Of note, the 'sheath' on the cable isn't attached to anything, should it be?

Maybe the inner cable is damaged?

have you checked that the throttle pedal pivot isn't rusty?
That's common, especially if a car has been left standing for a good while, easily fixed by stripping the assembly, greasing and refitting.

Alternatively, here's an easy fix for 'sticky' carburettors...

This problem is often related to a 'full throttle stop' on the carburettor which is indented, so that the butterflies go beyond fully open, giving 'volume setting 11', instead of 10.
Check by looking down the throat of the carburettor with WOT applied to see if the butterflies sit vertically.

Yes sort of, "outer" should be in the black plastic thingy with a spring clip holding it in the bracket that is on the back of the carb there should be a bit of free play.

It seems ok, I drenched it in carb cleaner and now it's all free and returns ok

the throttle shaft on the carb gets stiff well mine did wd 40 the whole thing
