That is a pretty good price. I amd just down the road too :D

I am assuming this is NOT a DIY job though :?: :?:

But more important is that we got a brand new interior yesterday from Retro Mobile.... Priorities come first (wife was with me)

Always willing to try.

Would the cylinder sleeves just knock out. They look welded in or at least part of the block.

Looks like an excellent reason to put a modern engine in it.

Do these rotate the 'opposite' direction like the DS, i.e., Gearbox mounted at the front of the motor?

If so I have the perfect replacement ;-)

Yes, same as the DS. Bet shipping that from Oz would be a little expensive though :)

I was thinking Renault 21 turbo, they were FWD with the engine in front of the 'box. First generation Renault Masters used the same gearbox but mounted in front of the engine. Bit of mixing and matching there should do it. ;)

Apparently a Citroen/Peugeot XUD engine mated up to a Skoda estelle gearbox has been done in a few Tractions. The XUD is the 1.8, 1.9 & 2.1 diesel engine used in virtually everything from Visa & 205 to XM & 605, many with a turbo.
Presumably the petrol equivalent (XU) would also fit, as it's dimensionally the same.
How about a 16valve 2.0 petrol or a 2.1 turbo diesel? (I'm not sure how the Skoda gearbox would cope with that though).

Which engine is it that was basically a Traction engine that lived on and on and on and ended up in the BX?

Finally after 3 months of being patient and smiling nicely at the Prefecture I was rewarded with the Carte Grise to this car after 44 years of not having one.

It did not help that the car predated the computer system and the owner had died.

I had to get certificates of Inheritance for the 3 children (all in their 60's now) and then get their signatures on transfer documents. Finally had to push (physically) the car through the Controle Technique for a FAIL but with a Contra Visit in 2 months (great rule in France that you can drive a car for 2 months even through it failed the MOT - not that I can drive it anyway  ) .

So all is done and now I just need some money to start the repairs (no one want to buy my little Simca :?: :?: )
