Sam, no good living in the past, language changes with time and it's 2014 now, not 1800... ;)

No. Only in contemporary grammar. Historically The chassis belongs to it, er go, 'I changed the car, his chassis' - removing the 'hi' requires the use of the apostrophe ;)

But language changes and develops as time goes by, so if enough people ignore the 'rules' and use different ways of speaking and writing the 'rules' change.

Fitted some new fuel pipe to replace the bit that had sprung a leak.

Went to Coventry and back and gave it a jolly good thrashing down the M69 with it way off the clock - well, I've got to get these new rings bedded in properly! Seem to have a really bad flat spot on the carb and hunts around 40mph so will look at switching it for one of the others I've got to see if that solves it...

Nels,
has the carburettor been re-jetted yet?
If it's still got the original jets in, 102.5 & 87.5/90, it will be running weak (& hot).
You can drill the primary jet out, or else buy one 'ready made'...

Hi Ken, I haven't looked yet - the replacement def has a 87.5 2nd jet and I will look at the main jet over the weekend - whilst the original has the flat spot, it doesn't pink and the ignition is advanced quite a long way - the exhaust is quite dark and doesn't suggest lean running....

Nels,
with unleaded fuel, you'll have to forget about that old method of gauging how well the engine is set up by looking at the tailpipe, since it will always be dark using currently available fuels.

Not quite sure what you mean by 'advanced quite a long way'?
There are known limits to what amount of ignition advance can safely be used, with both 8.5 & 9.0:1 pistons and an engine fed with 95 octane fuel...
