 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
Joolz, here's a paradox for you. If removing material from a wheel rim makes it more flexible, why did Citroen 'slot' Ami Super wheels, which they put under a car which was both heavier and faster than their 2-cylinder models? By contrast, an Ami Super chassis is close to 50% heavier than a 'standard' A series type and not all of that increase can be attributed to the extra crossmembers and the splayed front longerons. Anyhow, I've seen a couple of wheel rims fail in 2CV racing, with their centres having been torn out. The cracks originated at the wheel stud holes, which fits with side loading being the critical factor Bending moment resulting from side loading is highest at the wheel's attachment to the hub, so that outer ring of holes would not be in the 'danger zone', in my opinion... ken Joolz wrote: My maths says he's lost about 154grams per wheel, assuming 2.5 mm wheel thickness, 12mm small holes, 25mm large holes, and 13 of each size, but any of those figures could be wrong. He'll have made the wheels more flexible but hard to tell how much, at least if the start cracking it'll be easy to spot. Should be safe to assume they needn't be as strong as for a full car.More importantly it looks cool.

Except the vast majority of Ami Supers didn't have slotted wheels. Only 1974-on Supers had them, yet 33,500 of the total 42,000 Supers were 1973 cars, with normal wheels, exactly the same as all the two-pots. The stripes went onto the Super at the same time - were they an engineering upgrade? Did Citroen put the vented wheels on the Mehari Azur for a reason, or just for styling?

Holy carp. €5,000 Sahara! On Corsica, so almost certainly not rotten (unless, of course, it's been used in the sea...) Excuse me, I've just got to hitch the trailer up. I've got a ferry to catch.

I am going to Corsica soon But don't think Corsica doesn't get damp and it is never far from the sea, so it might have a little rust.
