important to get a 2cv mot at a specialist garage not quickfit wankers

hmm actually I couldn't disagree more. I always use my local Just MoTs. They're fair and sensible and unlike '2cv specialist' places don't go looking for problems. They take the car as they find it... which admittedly is impeccably well prepared.

There's so much bullshit talked about MOTs mostly by 'experts' who have never even read the manual.

Your car (and your passengers) are not better off if you take bits of it off to get around various regulations. You won't think you're so smart when your rear seat passengers rip the inner wings off and smash their teeth out on your swede.

Sam, I could well fit it in, I will be working a couple of Saturdays in the next week or two and could do it then, I'll have a look at that damper mount too at some point.

If you were busy pop-riveting computer cases into the floors to scrape it through another ticket, I could well see the appeal of hacking them off and hoping the MOT man never knew they were supposed to be there but, considering the effort and expenditure to which you already seem to be going, that would seem like a bit of a shame to me! Also bear in mind the original production cost of that car will have been worked out to the very last centime, and someone still thought they were worth fitting in the first place!

I presume the new High Quality items on ECAS' site are the SPOG-produced ones? As a 2CVGB member can you save a few pennies by buying direct? Having said that, considering how similar the prices are, it might be worth looking quite carefully to make sure you don't need complete inner wings!

Indeed. It's not as if it's difficult to actually _check_ what the tester's manual says.

OK, the bump stop repairs are £60 or so each. (Have you got SPOG shares, Sam?) But how much are you spending on the whole job? Do it properly, do it once.

And on top of that It doesn't really matter what the manual says with most of it down to the testers discretion. So much of it is left open to interpretation.
