 alternators and gearboxes...
Hi guys, couple of questions! I've found a 40a alternator which is mmuch cheaper than Ecas' £140 however it's a self regulating alternator! Instead of bypassing the regulator on the alternator, is it possible to remove the Dyanes standard regulator and bypass that instead? Would be easier than bypassing the regulator on the alternator! Next one, I want to fit a reverse light, the Dyane gearbox doesn't have the same back plate as a 2cv box, which had the fitting for a reverse light switch! A're the two plates interchangeable? I bought a similar alternator for our sidewinder and just by-passed the internal voltage regulator - much easier than rewiring the loom....

yes just connect the 2 wires at the regulator that are not the earth ie bypass the regulator if its a simple one exiter wire alternator. probably best to post a photo of the rear of the alternator and what make and model before you set the dyane up in a shower of sparks
back plates are interchangeable - but there has been plenty on one of the forums (Here, D*lly club GB or its Friends of FB page) using a cheap pull for on motorbike brake light switch which saves getting in a mess drilling tapping sealing switches etc etc

Nestle- surely I wouldn't have to rewire the loom? Just bolt the earth in as is and link the pos and neg together and bypass the original regulator? I assumed that it wouldn't be any different that way? At the end of it I need a new alternator and regulator! Thanks though  Lpgo- thanks For that! Great help  Thanks Sean! Just seen your post as I'd accidently Previewed mine not posted!  I knew it was possible to just bypass the old regulator! About the switch! I want a permanent long term switch that looks in-keeping and original to the car so I'd rather go with drilling and tapping! Is the pulley dia. the same as 2cv? I know on LNA which is the same as Visa (engine) the belt is longer..

Depending on type of alternator I would have thought that instead of joining the two wires together on the regulator it would be a good idea to put a low wattage bulb there. (A dash board light type would be ideal)

Chris, that's because the 652 fan pulley has a larger diameter; they're the same diameter as those rubber mounted pulleys fitted to the last 2CVs. A different size of pulley at the alternator end doesn't seem to have as much effect on the length of belt needed... ChrisW wrote: Is the pulley dia. the same as 2cv?
