Post Re: The Dirty 'D'
That's a nice solution for air ride.
I'm still fully getting my head around how well the air shocks will work with the 2cv suspension as the 2cv shocks work opposite to most other cars i.e. the more they extend the lower the car gets.
Actually the more I think about it the more confused I am... :?
When you increase the pressure in the air shock it lengthens, thus dropping the car low, pushing against the compression of the spring pots.
Which means you set the ride height at normal with 'low/neutral' pressure in the shock, then when you want to drive around low you add pressure..? So the lower you put it the firmer the ride will get and more pressure on the shock mounts etc.
Parking the car on low it will slowly creep up to normal height as the pressure bleeds off?
Correct!?
Do these air shocks work in reverse/opposition?

How about for off-roading/raids? Set the suspension as high as possible then when your off the dumpy rough stuff raise the pressure in the air shocks to lower it down to highway cruising, this will also save the 2cv joints!

I know some of the Snails have had cracked shock mounts from riding low with thicker oil in their shocks, maybe they will need some reinforcing?

Luv ya work!

Harley

Edit... I've just realised how you have achieved this, vertical shock mounts... How about at the front?
Can people still comment on my thinking above please! ;)

The standard suspension has had the tie rods wound out so the stock suspension is just going along for the ride..
It is the air shocks that now act as the suspension, driving height will be around 50psi full lift 7 inches will be around 65psi maybe more when the tank is in and filled, these shocks are rated up to 200psi and can be driven with just 20psi... it will be the air that moves when the car goes over a bump being displaced that will act as the suspension.
The tank and pump will work with a two paddle system to control the ride height, as the front is heavier the air pressure will need to be more....we will see :D

Be cool if you could have some sort of guide on the front that when the ride height is a certain gap thencar raises

There are air systems out there that almost do that type of running... this one is going to be as basic as it gets... i.e. cheap :D

I am planning to air-ride my new 4x4 also, however, my electronic ignition is in it's way. I want to programm a height-leveler (just like Citroen does with hydraulics) but then with electronics.

Theoreticly a tankmeter (the part which sits in the tank) from a 2cv can do the job...... but there are real things too which costs about 40 euro. You need 2 for a 2cv and 4 lpg valves...

If you want each wheel to be independed you need 8 valves and 4 sensors

If I only had more sparetime....
