Ayjay, to summarise gasless will do the job, it won't be pretty. A bottle of gas will improve things, but as someone that doesn't do much welding it still won't be pretty.

Only you can work out the cost benefit to yourself of a £10 roll of gasless Vs a disposable bottle and some 0.6 wire as we don't now what gear you have. If you are only doing the hinge and you don't have wire gas or a regulator then gassless. Go on the assumption that once you start poking there is going to be a lot more welding . If you intend to do more then gear up for gas I used to do a pair of sills seat box and toe board to a bottle of co2 from Machine Mart

Thats me then  I did all the welding on my Dyane which was about 6 months of every spare minute i had with my old Snap on welder and Halfords bottles,to be fair most lasted well as long as you unscrewed the regulator when you have finished and it still worked out cheaper than renting a BOC bottle. The biggest problem with the disposable bottles is what to do with the empty ones as nobody wants them.

Wrap them in a carrier bag with other rubbish. By the time they get to the tip on-one will know which bin they came from (unless you've left a receipt or something else with your name on in the bag with them)
