I like to be able to walk into town and buy anything from a loaf of bread to a set of guitar strings to a circular saw or some spanners. Couldn't do that living in the arse end of nowhere.

Small village would be quite acceptable, having experience of city life and middle of nowhere life, a village would be a nice middle ground.
