 Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
Well I was joking too..... and I don't know if I'm going to do it yet, I'm just absorbing information at the moment........ With a new turbo I'm done, with a Beamer engine it just starts (money- and timewise........)...... to be continued......

Hopefully be making good headway on mine over the next few weeks so will make a thread to tempt you away from turbos!! Although this engine make 200+hp with a turbo

 Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
Could you find us a source of cheap Hewlands then please? Adaptor plate is 12mm alu, and it would be no problem to make extra pieces at the side. Then I think you would need to bolt a steel bracket onto it to hold the rubber mount.

 Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
To be honest, a modified 2cv gearbox thicker pime axle bearing holder thicker (4x4) bearings at the back a good vaccuum host with oilcatch tank and the nut behind the wheel (who knows what he's doing someone like Pete Sparrow who strokes his car after it did a good job) and it will be fine... however I have also a lna gearbox with callipers already fitted and a axel 1300 5 speed with ventilated disks ( I guess with 9200 rpm it will do 230km/h)...... So 1 of them should do the trick

 Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
lpgo, I don't think it's the bearings you need to worry about in a 2CV gearbox when subjecting one to about 3 times the original design's torque and power. I've got the input shaft here from the BMW engined UK racer which finished 3rd at Spa 24hr a while back. The bearing (*and the input shaft seal which I'd fitted at Snetterton after being awake for over 24 hours*) are still OK, but the sustained high contact pressure on the teeth has scuffed them. ken * Rick also forgot to let me know where the input shaft was destined to be used, otherwise I'd have adjusted the fit to cater for use at over 8,000 rpm... *

 Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
If you're going to all the effort of achieving 100bhp+ then make your adaptor plate to fit a ford gearbox and Bedford Rascal/Reliant Rialto/AH Sprite axle. Rear wheel drive would be so much nicer.

 Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
Ken, my experience is just the otherway round.... Primeaxle plate (outside the clutchhousing) is bending all the way. Back bearings are weak, so simple but effective is to change them for a double rowed bearing (it fits perfecty when cutting the upper 3. gear tooth to 20.5mm (out of my mind)... I never experience tooth-wear when tooth are positioned in the way Citroen intended). P.s. a gearbox comming from the Citroen plant, misses up 0.5mm on all gears/or pignon and crown, so always re-messure and re-position them, (especialy when racing with them)... @ Russel, I have never driven a rearwheeldrive car on personal basis; only (selfbuild 4x4) and frontdrive, so first corner and I probably will face the wrong direction.. ken wrote: lpgo, I don't think it's the bearings you need to worry about in a 2CV gearbox when subjecting one to about 3 times the original design's torque and power.
