[quote="ken"]sig,
only if you like replacing engines fairly often, since 6,000 rpm was Citroen's recommended maximum for 602cc engines and peak power was at 5,750 ( a bit less for the earlier versions of the 602).

Also might be worth checking which ratios your gearbox has.
If it's 2CV4/Dyane4/AZU, the overall ratios will be lower, as the 435cc engine was the only one which produced its peak power at higher rpm, 6,750 to be precise...

ken

that would make sense as it has been pointed out that I´ve got the old duff gearbox. flat out I´m at 80km/h, its like it needs a 5th gear. its not just my car either as I´ve seen other spanish stuff for sale with the same box. also the older style steering wheel etc.
I´m either getting used to it or the car is getting used to driving again, but its generally more smooth and quiet now. (I blocked the holes with insulation also)
I´ve been fixing the various knocks etc also (final bump stop repositioned, and exhaust tightened etc.
also discovered the rear arm was loose, so tightened up the crown nut, but surprised there doesnt seem to be any lock system?
also the rear left drum (the one that was stuck ) definately has a leaky cylinder.

new upholstery ordered..got the green stripey one coming :D

ps no problem with the spare wheel under the car on speed bumps either :)

There should be a small hole in the threaded part of the beam for you to put in a split pin. You may need to turn the big lock nut to find it (or remove nut to find the position and re fit)

haha ! you always have to have the last word!! :lol:

just been off on the dirt tracks around the back, and you´re right the central thump that I occasionally hear is probably the spare wheel, but on examination afterwards, no damage or even scuffing , just raised the back by 2 or 3 turns and now it seems happier. also the manifold was blowing so tighteningthat has dropped the decibels by about 5

thanks for that, I´ll put a split pin in next time I dismantle for the brakes :D
