Is there an exhaust fitted to the car at the moment?
If not, you might have to do some lateral thinking...

correction..just had another look, the body is also lower than the chassis from about 50cm before the rear wheels due to the raking...don´t think thats problem though unless I want to go up curbs head on? :D

well if "Gay" you mean having a car that works as it should - where you can put your cover girlfriend and adopted child in the back and still get into the tesco carpark ...then your a crazy raging bender who prefers useability over a silly pointless fad.

right scatter cushions, where's the best buy on the faux suede covers?

I like a car to be low but how do you get over anything - stones, speed bumps etc.... Once the front wheels are over the bump it must rub the chassis all the way along until the back wheels....

They won't travel in it because its too noisy for them, I don't shop at tesco, and people have been lowering cars since the 1940s, so it's hardly a fad.

You do hit stuff, speed bumps and stuff like that aren't a problem unless you don't see them and hit them at speed. The worst thing to hit are cats eyes, they will stop you dead or cause damage. The most problematic obstacles (in my experience) are undulations on fast roads, two or more large bumps, the first is no problem but when you hit the second it's while the tyres and springs are compressed and you certainly feel them. Yeah, you tend to drag the chassis over bumps and stones but other than wearing the front axle bolt heads down (something you need to keep on top of, you don't want the rack coming off) I've not had any other problems due to the car being low.

"calm down , calm down " (in liverpudlian accent)

lets not turn this into an argument about whether to lower or not. its all down to personal choice isnt it and thats a good thing.
in my case the floor was wrecked and needed sorting, it makes more sense to put the floor on the sill anyway to avoid the leaking roof (filling a bath) situation. I would never do this to a good car, but I basically saved this from the scrapheap so it owes me ;)

I see plenty of ingenious design solutions within the 2cv but plenty of construction faults also (look at all the positions of rot, and chassis breakage, very common ) as I understand it it was designed as a cheap lightweight useable car . whatever renovations we do automatically turns the construction process into a labour intensive artisanal craft type process, there fore in my opinion its a bit silly to continue the same flaws that the original design has.

obviously in my case theres a hefty dose of of aesthetics involved. I ´ve always wanted a lowrider so nows my chance.all the other illogical decisions that are made on the way are just basic problem solving done either well or badly.
restauration of a car for me has to be a creative process otherwise i´d get really bored.

anyway rant over

ken, the exhaust was broken and I took it off...and its true I´d forgotton about it, but it ends laterally before the rear wheel, I notice others go all the way to the back. I´ll have a look at the fitting now..you´ve got me worried!

russell you read my mind, about the bump stops if the rear ones were moved slightly it makes sense of the concept which was to lower but without ruining the intended suspension.

still to put in the foot board, spent all day putiing a 3mm sheet under the front suspension axle as a compression plate to solidify the weak chassis. fotos later

Not an argument about lowering etc. My Dyane is lowered and I have around 48mm gap between bolts and floor. Even with this distance I have to be careful. I tried to board a ferry this summer and it hit the ramp and also the small metal piece than fits into the ground for double gates - that hurts as car almost stops..........

Keep up your good - fast work - but please think sometimes as re doing things because things do not fit is a pain in the arse.....

damn right there!...the spare wheel issue is probably one of those!! we´ll see, or should that be wheel see!

anyway here the 3/4 done foot plate, a relief to have that in and locates the body , you see the 2nd part of the floor to be connected stil, its actually dead useful to have this not welded, it give great access to the suspension stuff from above...I might join the 2 parts with bolts instead of riveltting..I don´t know how the MOT / ITV people stand on that issue??

also for ken the gap for the silencer is ok, If I cut it about 15cm shorter it will fit well between the cross members of the floor
by the way this is fotographed in reverse, from the computer the car is left hand drive

No debate about lowering, here's why it's the way:
