Post Aluminium casting repair kit
Nicked from a chap on the Series 2 Landy forum. Potentially useful for anyone with a damaged crankcase to repair, such as me.

I've used this stuff; it is very good but a lot trickier to do than the video makes it seem.

There's no flux needed but thorough tinning is vital and the wire brush must be stainless. Basically you get the parent metal surface hot enough to melt the stick and after coating scrub through with the brush; this breaks the surface oxidation and allows the tinning process to work.

It won't bond to steel hence making a new thread with a steel bolt does work, tinning is very difficult inside a hole but a scriber can be used effectively.

I've used something similar before, with a bit more practice I think it could be quite useful. Google 'techno weld' for more information.

Not sure I understand, how is this better than welding?

You don't need a "welding machine" just a torch

Simple, you can pick up a kit for £40, and do it at home with a blowlamp.
You can also 'weld'(join) really thin stuff with no discernible talent, as you're not melting the work piece. And you can join dissimilar metals.

I remain sceptical. Joining dissimilar metals is an advantage mind you.

Obviously there are plenty of ways that welding is better too. They're different, both have advantages in different applications.
