 Re: Sticking Gearbox
Will upload findings as I go. Here 1st/reverse hub buggered. Some minor damage to the splines on the 2nd/3rd sliding pinion (sliding inside 1st/reverse hub) Entire box is full of tiny metal chips. All needs cleaning out. You can see small chips sticking to the casing in the oil. Some bearings have metal chips in them

 Re: Sticking Gearbox
When I took the lid off and rolled the car back and forth, there was a lot of moving gears. So I suppose it only take a bump or so on the road and the shifter might engage slightly, chip[ away at something and fall back.
And as it did not have much oil in either - I don't think I want to take that risk. So either I will drive it or trailer it.
Found some nice trailers (small and light) that I will save up for later in the year.

 Re: Sticking Gearbox
Nothing to report on the input shaft. The oil leak reaching the clutch is not from here. The scroll is good but not sure if the bearing is obstructing the air flow. Maybe the box was overfilled at some stage. Except last person didn't lock the nut. Should have been replaced Interesting? Hub is 4 holes, gear box casing 6 holes Not that is matters unless the hubs were swapped without setting the crown bearing preload and the back-lash. I wonder why?

 Re: Sticking Gearbox
I suppose a lot can happen in 56 years. I didn't notice the 6 stud holes though.
The only thing I can think of is that this would have had a centrifugal clutch... or that is what people tell me.

 Re: Sticking Gearbox
Wouldn't have thought so, going down hill in a loaded van with a centifugal clutch may have got "interesting" and that input shaft isn't one for a centrifuge.

 Re: Sticking Gearbox
But at 110kph... I think it was the fact it had crappy oil. But now it will always be on my mind But you are right - there must have been some issue as the top had recently been off.

 Re: Sticking Gearbox
Generally gearboxes are not ruined by speed - Torque is the killer. So free wheeling at 110 kph should be fine.
