Quite interesting reading, not that much of it makes a lot of sense, One of missions this winter is to learn about gear boxes, I've got one in the garage I'm going strip apart, and try and learn about them, realistlcily that'll happened but It does interest me

James one I did yesterday, had a cracked bell housing due to a broken chassis, thought I would give it a go, just got to put it back together again

Hi Simon, there are a few things which are worth doing when you're that far into a gearbox, which will pay dividends in longevity and reliability. Peening the selector ring to prevent it unwinding, replacing the rear bearing on the main shaft and torquing the rear nuts properly, as well as securing both of them with Loctite. Thanks Ken, Spanners already mentioned the peening  it looks a good gearbox the car it came out of had very little mileage, will have a look at the link thanks, are all the gaskets still available? cheers Simon
