I personally like the idea of making a bespoke 2cv engine stand. I know you can do them on a bench but a nicely fabricated stand that allowed you to run an engine out of a car would be quite a nice bit of kit. For most jobs you don't have to split the casing anyway, although yeah, doing it on a bench is not exactly a problem.

Careful when lifting gearboxes, I had a bit of an accident at registers day with a Bijou box. It was f*cking hilarious though...

After i'd changed my gearbox in lechlade, i didn't have space to take the old one home, so I asked the landlord whether he had somewhere I'd be able to leave it until I could go and pick it up. He said that would be OK and to stick in the 3-wheeled truck thing in the yard. Unfortunately he happened to come outside at exactly the same point as I realised I hadn't been carrying it upright and all the oil had come out around the lever and ended up all over my trousers and all over his nice concrete yard! Oooops!

Early on the Saturday morning I wandered round to the trade stands to get an egg roll and say hello etc. Looking at a selection of used ami bits on a stall the stallholder asked if I'd mind helping him/her get a gearbox out of his trailer. I picked it up and in an attempt to keep my shirt clean I held it away from my body, the weight got from me and pulled me and the box over, where I smashed it into a very pretty set of ripple wheels he/she was selling and twatted my head on his/her bx which was parked next to them. The gathered crowd didn't find it funny in the least, and I felt like a bit of a twat.
