Post Exhaust and Inlet gaskets
Are the Exhaust manifold to cylinder head and inlet manifold to cylinder head the same gaskets?

I put some on the wrong way round, and although they work, you get strange black goo running down the cylinder head from the exhaust end.

Simon,
not only are their shapes different, but their composition is as well, since the exhaust end of the engine tends to be a bit hotter than the inlet.

Fitting inlet gaskets to the exhaust joint will restrict the outlet.
The gaskets won't last very long either.

Notwithstanding the above, I've found them fitted incorrectly on race engines, someone even managing to fit the exhaust gaskets at 90 degrees to how they should be located.
Pure genius... ;)

ken.
