Joe,
once you've got the wings off, clean the crankcase using brake cleaner (posh option) or a rag soaked in petrol (cheaper option), then run the engine, which should help you spot where the leak is.

Btw, if it does turn out to be the oil pressure switch, it's not necessary to remove the engine cowling to change it.

I appreciate all of this info guys, I need to re-set the valve clearances and clean the oil cooler on my day off so I'll strip a bit more off and take a proper look when I do that. I'm hoping it's the cheapest possibility!

Furthermore you can cover the crankcase with talcum/baby powder to spot the leak. ;)

That's a handy bit of lateral thinking; even got talcum powder in the shed, to use when fitting inner tubes to tubeless tyres... ;)

Ken, quite right, I put the cowling back on today and saw that the sensor can be reached without the cowling being removed. Deep in there isn't it but much better than removing the cowling.

I've spent the morning with a helicoil kit on the cylinder head oil feed, to anyone who hasn't stripped one yet they really are rather soft.

It was a major disappointment to solder up a hole in the oil feed pipe at the side of the road and then strip the thread for the cylinder head feed on reassembly. I went home on a rope.
