Before I sign up, I need a Solex ;)

Which Solex is the best to get for a beginner solex owner. There are plenty on offer in my local area but I am not sure of the right price to pay. Most are around the 200 to 300 euro mark for a decent looking bike. I am a bike mechanic so no problem with the restore other than the motor of course but should be easier than the 2CV...right!

Any pointers would be great.

cheers

Ian

They're all fairly much of a muchness. 3800s are most common. 2200s are better looking, a bit less power than the 3800, and have rim brakes both ends, rather than the 3800s rear drum. The rim brakes are laughably crap... 3300s are a half-way house, a 3800 with the 2200 motor.

Older than that, you're into specialist territory, though.

Too many 2cv's is right.A 3800 would probably fit the bill,or,if you would rather a round frame instead of a square one, then a 2200 would be fine.As far as speed is concerned, they arent the fastest thing on the planet, but if you chose a 2200,you could always fit a 3800 type cylinder ans a shorter piston.Like what i am doing  .
