With the Spanish World Meeting looming on the horizion and being committed to driving through France on the back as well as the way down, I've been toying with the idea of getting a Liber-T toll road tag.

I've done a bit of research and the reviews seem favourable.

Anyone on here have any experience of the tag?

Even though I have lived here for 9 years i have never needed one. The only time really I use the route national (paying part) is to go to the airport in Paris and then there are no big queues at the pay stations. Even in a RHD vehicle as long as you have a method (undo seat belt as arrive at first gate, credit card ready etc) I have never held up the traffic behind.

Do not know what the savings would be for each part of the journey - cannot see there being big saving for 1 journey down and 1 journey back from Spain.

We've got one and it's buzzing as fuck, especially in summer when the Toll booths are busy going south.

We have them and i have no clue as to why everyone does not have them. If you do not use the tolls within the month then you pay a euro. But on favorite routes you get 15% discount. As we do use the tolls throughout our season we clock up a monthly bill of around €200

It is even better now they are introducing the drive thru at 30kph lanes. In the summer you breeze past huge ques, hence me wondering why everyone does not have them.

But as a tourist....not sure it is worth it unless there is a tourist version, saves pissing around with credit cards and taking tickets, plus you are ignorant of the price until you get home

This. Even if it's not busy, it's nice just to cruise on through in the 'smug' lane

and spent so much money for saving a couple of hours
i drive through france a few times a year ( i have a holidayhouse in portugal) and always use the little (D) roads, not even the bigger (N) routes nationales
so much nicer to drive and i can spend the money saved on the toll roads on the "menu du jour" in the little restaurants on the way!

Agree with you staf - in the off season if we can stay off the toll roads we will. But going back to the UK we will go on the toll roads purely because it will take us 10 hours on them or 20 hours not on them.

It is a dilemma with a 2CV though (OK maybe not all 2CVs but defo my AZU) that the motorways have less hills on them but then you have to balance the minimum speed and the worry of big trucks coming up on your arse to fast.

So in a "slower" A series I think I would stick to the quieter roads and enjoy the scenery and not worry about a toll transponder.

In that case, another good reason to avoid that option.
We usually avoided toll roads on our travels, but one evening near Bilbao, running out of time to find a campsite for the night, we jumped onto a toll road for about 15 km.
Since it was just the Dyane and a small trailer, we were shocked at the amount demanded at the toll booth, about 10 times more than expected, iirc.
Turned out the b'stard was trying to charge us the rate for a lorry + trailer, our only option was to park the car obstructing the booth and refusing to pay until he backed down.

Luckily, my wife speaks perfect Spanish, including the required number of 'not quite polite' expressions...

A car and trailer is class 1 but a car with slightly larger caravan is same class as a lorry as is a Motorhome.

But the little caravans most deuchistes use (the pucks) should be still class 1.

My work vehicle is a Renault Trafic minibus, with 12 racing bikes on the roof and a huge trailer (like a horsebox) for carrying luggage - it is still class 1
