 Re: Joolz's Red One
Can I ask - is it always the same drive shaft? Is the exhaust close to the joint? Just some thoughts

 Re: Joolz's Red One
Can't you use Ami Super Gs(a), Axel, (visa) driveshafts??? They must be stronger then them 2cv's....
Ami super driveshafts should run great (maybee with Ami super front axle)

 Re: Joolz's Red One
So far it's been the left shaft both times, and yes that is the exhaust side, but I don't think it's close enough to be causing the problem. Next time after a run I'll compare the relative temperatures of the left and right sides, but putting my hand on it will have to be good enough for now. I'd heard it said before that the ami super driveshafts weren't very strong, and that the 2cv ones were better, . And here's something I wasn't expecting, the Axel vented discs fit over LNA gearbox output flanges. Harley, what did you find when you tried yours?

 Re: Joolz's Red One
Ami Super shafts suck. Fixed length with weak circlip in the end joint. I have wrecked a couple in my limited use of Jeremy and that is only with the 1299cc flat 4, not anything like as rapid as Joolz Special. Alos, they are pricey and not readily available. I often carry my only spare in the back when I go any distance and I used to have a spare circlip in my wallet until very recently. I am converting to 2cv shafts when I have time and mon£y!

I have a gS output shaft out at the minute, I'll chuck it a that and see what happens! Harley

I've have driven 15 years in a Ami Super, (8 years as a child on the backseat). My mam used to drive flat out all the time in the seventies..... (She released throttle only a little when the oil temp. warning light came on) and I have had my own Ami super for several years, never have broken a single shaft....... So they can't be weak...... do you have the Original Ami super front axle with Original suspension arms also, otherwise it won't work .....

 Re: Joolz's Red One
Boys you are missing the point on Ami Super drive shafts
ARM Travel is much less on an Ami super so less strain!! Greatly reduced upward and downward movement
shaft runs much straighter and only at an angle on slow turns!
That is it!

 Re: Joolz's Red One
Hi Joolz,
Cannot see fully in your pictures but 2 does show that the shaft is running forward between the gearbox and the wheel bearing. If this is not the case (sorry) but this could be putting too much stress on the inner joint. Chris

 Re: Joolz's Red One
Yes Chris the shaft does run forward to the wheel, but it's by so little I can't imagine it has any effect. The angle is much less than the ones created by suspension travel.
I didn't have any trouble with the shafts until I fitted the 5-speed, and that necessitated lifting the back of the 'box over the axle. I can only assume then that it was the downwards angle of the shafts that was the main cause of the problems. Now I've reset the suspension height to about 3" off the ground, the shafts are much straighter.
