what sort of costs for a runner??

colour and chassis condition not too important

but i am after one with a half good body i could weld badly

mildly grind
and get Ante to paint bright gloss
With flowers of course!

not to mention the 4x4 bit underneath!!

Rupert would love it!

Pony,
as you seem serious about this idea, have had to update my previous correction...

Forget all this talk about tappets
jus get a Pony and get welding,
then do some more welding every year thereafter!!

Michelin Mud & Snow tyres. Are they long lasting, and how do they perform on the road? In other words.... Are they a good everyday tyre?

I used the Vredestein M+S for 3+ years, seemed fine in the summer, no noticabley excessive wear, plenty of tread left still tho they may be getting harder with age & less 'winter grippy', can't currently use them as the 425 won't pull them.
Roy is selling off his stock it seems : http://www.ecas2cvparts.co.uk/clearance ... -1174.html

I'd have thought 155 would affect how the car handles and brakes, and not in a good way. It's like the very late Issigonis Minis having those stupidly massive wheels and tyres. Supposedly looked 'good' (fugly, if you ask me), but made the car worse to drive.

No, never seen the point of silly wide wheels either. The Vreds have not caused me any problems, ran them fairly hard so maybe the contact patch was less? Got me home a couple of times in the snow when everyone else was stuck. Bought them initially because they were cheap & I figured they might last well as the tread was so deep, and they have. Win win...

Well that's interesting to know, and they are cheap. I've currently got 3 Toyo 135s and a Michelin ZX 135. The ZX is being replaced tomorrow with another Toyo (strapped for cash atm), but my intention is to fit Michelins all round yet again in the future. The future's bright, the future's Michelin.

If it's an everyday car, fork out for the Michelin. If it stands around for a fair part of the year cheaper tyres will do. Don't scrimp on the chassis. Oil, cheap as chips, change more regularly than recommended. Tappets? Have the little buggers adjusted at least twice a year and listen to them. TLC all the way even when thrashing them.
Now you may be able to argue.

Tappets are next on the to do list. Been told my engine is very quiet for a 2CV.
