Replaced the HT leads about a month ago. Didn't make any difference... :/

i had the same problem, replaced the ht leads with "expensive" ones, and it did that, replaced them again as advised but this time with cheaper ones, all is still well a year on!

Might just give it a try! Although i plan on having 'van day' tomorrow, so i'll try the various other ideas first :)

Cheers folks - appreciate the help so far.

Also BADLY need to crank up the front suspension. Four thoroughly dead shocks have left my poor suspension completely vulnerable to every bump on the roads, and the nose of the van has slowly been heading road-wards for months as the tie-rods unscrew themselves

Really? Tie rods unscrewing themselves? Not seen that before. I might suggest you delve a bit further into that one...

I just figured it was something like that as the roads around where i used to work were AWFUL - I may be wrong lol.

I know my chassis is good, so what else could it be?

Haha - I'm realising my a-series investigatory skills might need a bit of polishing up

Progress! (of sorts)...

Went out to the van today, and started working my way through the suggestions. First on the cards was 'cleaning' the carb by sticking my hand over it.

Wasn't quite fast enough to stop it stalling out, but noticed that my hand was covered in oily gunk. poked a finger into the carb and gave it a wipe, only to find it was suddenly EVERYWHERE!

Figured that the oil breather might be involved somehow, so took the air filter out to have a look, only to find this...

A likely suspect, would you agree?

looks like a lot of oil in there possibly ring /bore wear and or breather kaput ( recon ones available here)

foam can breakdown if there is spitting back through the carb (Ignition timing condensor probs and valve gaps)
