I've had an idea. I think there should be some kind of automatic fog light control on cars. Not something that switches the foglights on automatically when visibility drops below a certain level - that's too prone to dirty sensors and so on - but instead, when the driver presses the foglight switch, a voice will say "it's nowhere near foggy enough for those, you depressing moron". There will be three occasions where the driver can turn on the fog lights in conditions of light mist or rain or conditions of perfect visibility, and he or she will get this message in increasingly strident tones. The fourth time it happens, something reasonable and proportionate will happen, like their car will be destroyed in a small but potent controlled explosion, all the wheels will fall off or a giant foot will appear from the sky and squash the car and all its occupants into merciful oblivion.
I'm talking about rear fog lights here. Front fog lights will be exactly the same only without the three verbal warnings.

Fog lights - totally agree - It is look at my car it is the expensive one with the front fog lights (not the cheap model you have) so I put them on with my side lights - I am soooooo coool.. Not you f--king mooron. I give them full head lights and when they get angry I say you have 4 lights on I only have 2 so f--k off.

Its an offence to drive with foglights in un necasary conditions anyway
If only the police enforced it...

It's quite hard to enforce thought as it'd be a matter of the coppers opinion, wouldn't it?
They have bigger issues to deal with than some spaz with fog lights on.

Two of my clients are retired Police officers - One was chief constable and I asked him one day what he thought of these ''Police camera action'' type programmes where 4 police cars drive at 100 mph to arrive about 10 minutes late to 1 guy who has no tax on his car. He was totally ashamed of those programmes and the POLICE boy racers. They may have better things to do that stop people using fog lights but they spend lots of time looking for other road traffic offenses.

The actual guidelines on when fog lights are permitted are quite limiting....if people really knew or obeyed them it would be really rare to see them switched on......personally I also love the tools who don't switch them on in actual fog.....wtf..... :(

I agree police time would be wasted in enforcing this rule however....but I believe that as members if the general public we have a civic duty to enforce some form of reprimand on these morons.....I suggest carrying a fog brick (essentially a house brick with the words fog on both sides)....this"fog brick" would be lobbed at the passing morons vehicle/person.....if as general public we had this greater sense of social responsibility then surely small driving misdemeanours would cease....

Perhaps an "overtaking on double solid white lines brick" "full beam/not dimming brick" "not indicating on roundabouta brick" could also be considered........?
All kept in easy to reach sack beside the driver..... :x

If I used house bricks for all the mistakes French drivers make in a days drive I would need a big trailer behind me. Example - roundabout - not a f--king clue. They are changing some of the main junctions around my area from normal cross roads to roundabouts and I can bet within 2 days of opening there are skid marks either around or over the roundabout. And when they finally slow down enough to get round it - signals not a hope in hell.

Unfortunately, with the rash of new cars coming to the market with daylight driving lights that are quite often the position fogs are in it would be impossible for plod to distinguish in the dark.....rear fog lights, now that's a different matter - a tightening noose around the perps balls in direct relation to the length of time spent running with them on when not required would maybe be a just, small, penalty?
