Mine just starts in a way that doesn't resemble a wind up toy. Never had to actually use the handle and I don't want to really. When I've tried before I've usually
Epically failed... That might be due to 123 ignition though?

Post Re: I hate winter
we are thinking of getting a couple of goldfish to swim around in our dyane as there's so much water getting in at the moment:cry: but boy did it rain yesturday :o

where do we start in stopping water ingress from the front?

managed to get our battery going flat problem the other day by a visit up to 2cv city in bradford ;)
i know some folk don't rate them but so far i have been happy with the service :)
they checked bushes which were half worn but working ok
then checked battery and that was performing ok
then they checked the regulater but it responded slowly as appeared to be original paris job so replaced with a new one so things react quicker.
but in the end it was the alternator at fault so had a new one put on with a new belt
they charged £100 for all the parts with free fitting which i thought was pretty good :D

had a scary drive over the M62 on the tops above Oldham going to Bradford with a 40mph limit in force due to high winds - all i could think about was having watched Top Gear blow over a 2cv behind a jet and when a box van in front of me lifted a back wheel in front of me
in one of the gusts i thought i was next
but we made it there and back but change of underwear was needed

so being optimistic for the forthcoming winter electrics wise BUT we need to reduce the amount water getting in

The thing id say is about the city, is youll be happy with them until they do some makor work and ypu realise you are being ripped off and ypur car bodged... And thats when it becomes an expensive regret!

Wiper spindles can wear and let in water, or your windscreen seal could be hiding a nice, big area of corrosion that its weeping through?

I'm sure there's more lol - my acad is just as bad :(

old mechanical electric VR are slow its what they do so was not necessarily broken if alternator put out slightly more than battery Voltage at idle and didnt put out more than 14.5v at 3000rpm. electronic react faster- speed of electrons=speed of light)
Alternator brushes -?? £14 ish, bearings £12 ish (spray of silver paint priceless) only thing that kills them is green spots in the stator windings but as JDub says £30 for his to be refurbed locally or pay £77 for an all new iskra copy at the other place ;)

Dyane and derivatives have a HUGE rain water collection system on the scuttle to ensure that you have that "wet toed gallic charm" long after its stopped raining its one of the many things that make Dyanes better than the humble 2cv, check the scuttle isnt full of leaves and dead animals , the drain off pipes arent blocked and that the inevitable rot where the spare has been rubbing isnt diverting the waterfall into the cab

beyond that +1 for wiper spindles windscreen surround rot.

This will be my second winter in a 2cv,and to be honest,I have found it ok.Yes,I have a nice thick underlay under the plush fitted carpet, and a thermal liner on the roof(inside of course),a heated rear window, and the heater seems to work ok.The bulkhead is well insulated and carpeted. No water leaks, except a small one into the boot, and not much wind noise either.
So yes,its a nice place to be,all warm and snug.
Arent all 2cv's like this?
And a good dab radio to listen to Gold .

Snap, but my iPod rather than gold

This is my second winter with only a Honda c70 on the road...last winter was mild enough and to be honest once you wrap up it doesn't really matter.......the 2cv is positive luxury.....heat and a roof.........it's a palace...
