Re: Which (if any) electronic ignition
By the way, there is no answer to 'what's best'. And this is one of those topics where everybody has an opinion and nobody agrees.

Re: Which (if any) electronic ignition
Had Dyane's with points, 123 and 1-2 spark. Must say never had problem with all 3 systems. The only thing I would say for electronic is the need not to remove the fan every time to do the points. Can I ask what is the problem with bump starting with electronic ignition??

I agree with russ Mine always starts on points What about when u jump start your car when 123 is fitted..? Ipgo have you tested for that senario.? Whats the point here???? ofcourse it will work, why wouldn't it.... I woulnd't try to start with 24volt (2 batteries in series) thats another story I think mine can do that but I don.t know for 123 and co. Cranking it by hand is a challenge with 123 is told to me you can't do that. Dgnition you can crank by hand, mine too..... inverse polarity of 123 and co. I dont know, mine does. Take 1 pole of the batterie while engine running, I haven't tested yet so I don't know (at the moment) will test soon... 123 and co I don't know... Mark 4x4 left the ignition key on for a whole weekend and started without problems at monday on 1-2-spark. I know 1 thing for sure you can't do that on points.... because they have drained your batterie or are burned or coil has gone. Another problem with points is that they overheat the coil anyway so youre coils brake down... Well I think this is enough for now...

Re: Which (if any) electronic ignition
Can i just wade in and say that i have had cars with points/condenser or electric ignition. Which do i prefer - points and condensor, purely because if something goes wrong i replace the bits very easily and cheaply (keep spares in the boot). If the electronic ignition gives up, your stuck (usually on a fast road) with no option but to call the AA.

A black 2cv coil needs only 0.004 sec yes 4 thousands of a sec current (at 12 volt) to make a decent spark... On points this time will be multiplyd 400 times or more (at idle) and this will go into the capacitor and/or heating (burning) up your coil....... so it will be destroyed........ The new generation of capacitors for 2cv are crap making it even worse... Even 123 is giving to long current and some to less (123 for visa coil) running on 1 cilinder... meaning to less dwelltime....
