how old are the photos? seeing as splitters are regulation now?

Not on euro series classic cars. Roll cage and fire extinguisher and that's about it. An interesting contrast to the BMW engines, bio ethanol fuel, visa heads on 2cv, etc, etc... cars.

As an aside, guess which cars spend the least time in the pits

Well it's only what I've been told, and if I get told something by somebody with experience with that particular subject, I'll just accept it as being right.

I've just returned from what has been, quite frankly, a shit WASPs meeting. If it hadn't have been for a new member from Kidderminster turning up, I'd have been on my own. Anyway, on the way home I came back on the M42 and M5 and got upto 60/65mph with the muff in place, so hopefully I won't end up frying the engine.

It's worth noting that the muff will have no effect on speed what so ever. Nor does it effect the cooling of the engine. The fan is more than capable of pulling through all the air it needs to effectively cool the engine. What a muff does is prevent the barrage of cold air hitting the engine caused by the forward motion of the car.

Post Re: MUFF !
attached the black plastic muff this morn so hope it stays on - didn't have time to cable tie it on as too dark so will do at weekend.
can you recommend any one else for mechanical works in my neck of the woods?
we have a shared drive way so not sure if i want a cable across the area in the morning in case neighbour is out first and drives over it or postie trips up.
surely there must be other forms of pre-heating them?
i like the bubble wrap idea as i can imagine the sponge i shuvved in will get damp over time!
wife seemed to have trouble starting the car this morn - even though the couple of dabs on the throttle pedal first and turning til it catches failed about 6 times!
might buy some new H/T leads today as i think that is all that hasn't been changed apart from as you say having the car correctly "set up"
i had irridium bike plugs fitted so as not to have to change them as often - it has a 123 ignition system a new coil and so on.
i might put up a topic to see if our european friends have alternatives for pre-warming thier cars?
thanks again
bob

In Holland an Germany there are Webasto of Eberspacher heaters (which works on the petrol and battery of the car) used, but they are pricy,, but can work with a timer or even remote control (pritty cool looking out of your houses window an see if the car is frozen and if then pre-heat the car by remote control) 8-) 8-)

Engine temperature is directly related to combustion efficiency, running too cold will bring power output down.

Sorry to sound lo-tech, but this has always worked for me...
1. Go outside without your coat on. If you say to yourself "Shit! It's freezing!" then it's a muff on kinda day.
2. Go outside without your coat on. If you say to yourself "Ooh, not so bad!", and you're confident that you could still say that after 5-10 mins or so outside, then it's a muff off kinda day.

All the rest is just over-thinking, surely.
;)

Easier than that, I usually put them on our cars at the beginning of October and remove them around March the next year...

There's an even simpler means of doing it. Throw the muff away and buy a Mercedes. When you walk outside and its bastard freezing just take the merc.
