Right then, I have had a Plan for stage 1 of the rolling resto.
Im sure its something that has been done before although not something I have seen on here as yet
There are 2 main areas of corrosion on the shell, The back end and the windscreen scuttle.
Windscreen can wait for now as its not as bad as the Back end.
(Forgive me here as im not up with the terminology as yet)
The rear end has patches over patches the Light panel Boot floor and rear hockey sticks down to the rear lights are shot.
Lots of creativity has been used along with Oodles of Fibreglass.
Now being a daily i will need to gather these replacement parts together before I start, Having priced up some of the replacement panels The price is going to add up quickly.
So I plan to get everything i need together before surgery begins.

But me being a tightwad and an Original metal where possable freak have decided it might be an idea to find a scrapper with a solid arse and get a body cut off it.

The idea would be to unstitch it a panel at a time and let the bits in as needed.
I have no plans on doing a body off pan job (See definintion of daily) and have every intention of doing the work in sections over weekends of frenzied activity.
The idea of doing it in sections is twofold, Firstly to keep downtime to a Minimum, and secondly if i unpick a panel at a time then things cant get too out of shape.

Coming from a Aircooled dub background this is the approach i would take with one of those.
Is there any reason that this would be unworkable with an A Series?

Thanks in advance for the input, its all a learning curve on these things

All I would say is that if you can find a scrap car with a better body that yours then swap the body over, don't waste time removing welded panels and swapping them over. You could spend years waiting for a front end write off or similar to come along. What's a 'pan job'? Repairing the back end with new panels would be the best option, it's not tricky and will last longer in the future.

AH like that is it with decent bits, I was guessing as much but secretly hoping it was not so.

and Sorry Russell I have slipped back to type, Pan Job its a VW thing as in taking the shell off the floorpan (Chassis in this case)
Looks like i will need to get saving then

Im not scared of a bit of Metal surgery By the way I was just wondering if there was any reason It cant be done on the Chassis?
If I turned another daily into a full blown resto I dont think Mrs Unhinged would see the funny side

replacement panels ECAS - not cheap but far far better than the puckered mis-formed crap that you will be used to in the VW world
any replacement shell is going to be pretty messy and expensive as they are rare appreciating classics now

I'll do it for cash ;)

Boot floor and rear sweeps etc can all be done on the chassis.
