 Re: Toe Board Replacement
Thanks for the links and info, Sean. Just fretting over this job at the moment. Never tried it before... [/quote] What's wring with that? Mine was far worse, nothing some GRP matting and epoxy can't fix

He's not, he tried to sell me the idea to be a good one If you have used epoxy I hope you understand that anything polyester based such as car fillers and fibreglass repair paste and polyester resin (what you should be using for fibreglass) will not adhere to epoxy. It's like trying to use PVA glue under water I'd rather spend 100's and know it s metal than patch with 'glass

Janez, only the English and to a degree the Scandinavians, have a fairly relaxed attitude towards rust. Australians would be the fuzzy'st people on earth when it comes to rust.

2cvkeza wrote: You are joking ... ? There was no rust anywhere else so I didn't see the point in replacing the whole panel. I ground out all the rust and used a rust converter. I used GRP matting in layers to rebuild the curve and did layers of epoxy on top before painting with rattle cans. Looks fine

Converting rust back to metal Just use plenty...

2cvkeza wrote: Sorry, but the use of polyester (or other plastic - you name it) is quite pathetic. Yes, it is easy, looks good and it is fast and cheap. But you didnt solve the problem... you just glue it down . I totally agree - I chose to use fibreglass there as I wasn't doing a full resto and didn't have the money or skills to do it properly. Really, I just wanted to keep the water out, and being me I was rather pragmatic about it Rest assured, I'll have it done properly when it's buggered
