Thanks kindly Russell. The regulator is shipped by Royal Mail overnight service. Should get to Farnham, Surrey GU9 9QG tomorrow

When i said I'd pick one up, I meant from my local welding store, I can't get to Farnham tomorrow, as lovely a town as it is. (or was, when I lived round there)

OK this is to be a very quick desicion. Both my welders are fucked, Spanners are heading my way next week and has kindly offered to bring a new welding beast I'm about to order on line and have delivered to Jon. But before ordering on line (friday) tell me which one to order, gasless or not I don't care. I'm hoping that 250-300 pounds will get me something good, new that is? + need to consider size and weight in Spanners car.
What should I order?

Had one of these for a good few years now. It's been fine for me.

Hi all.
I was going to suggest the Clarke 151EN has it is gas or no-gas, also it is what I am thinking of buying.

That gas bottle looks like pure argon what you need for using gas is a mix of 95% argon and 5% co2.

Ya well I know but I'm stuck with it. Can't just return it for a swap so I'll ''learn'' to weld skinny 2cv's with pure argon. What would the result be?

It's difficult to use and produces cr@p welds on steel, according to this source.

If it were me I wouldn't touch one of those Clarke things. I have one which is total shit. It's only in the garage because I can't be bothered to take it to the tip. You're better off buying something from a decent brand. £300 will buy you a good used welder around 150-180A that'll take a decent size bottle, not those disposable cans. New-arc, Eland, Cebora, Miller etc are all proper welding brands.

Why are yours 'fucked'? What's wrong with them?
