Trouble is I am going to Morocco in the van next year and I might be better served by putting a modern 602 in with disc brakes for the trip. I'll let you know Dave. I doubt it. Set the drums up properly and they're as good as discs anf there's no advantage to an M28 in a van as opposed to an M4. At the end of the day, you're still driving something with the aerodynamics of a house. Plus the last of the M4s were more powerful than a later M28 AND you get the amazing AK gearbox which will climb mountains. I quite like my M4, you might have guessed. Pete Abbott would be proud of me

Agree about drums, disagree with your pro-m4 nonsense.

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
Thank you both for your advice. It is not just about how well or not the brakes perform but also about carrying spares for the journey. There are 15 2CV's going so standardising the spares we take to keep weight down is important.
Putting a standard 602 engine and disc brake gearbox in my AK350 will mean I will be on the same gear as everyone else on the trip.

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
Sam, not too sure that it's the gearbox which is primarily responsible for giving the power train in an M4 engined van its distinctive character. If you check the overall gear ratios on a pre May '68 van gearbox with an 8/29 pinion and crownwheel set, 1st and 2nd are just slightly lower than their equivalents in a 2CV box whereas 3rd and 4th are higher. However, M4 engines made their peak torque and peak power at much lower rpm than later 602 engines. For the M4, depending on which model, peak torque is achieved between 2,800 and 3,500 rpm compared to 3,500 to 3,750 rpm for the later models Similarly, peak power for the M4 variations, although lower than that of the later engines, is found between 4,500 and 5,000 rpm compared to 5,750 rpm for M28/1, M28 etc. Taking this data into consideration, my guess is that Citroen designed the M4 as something of a 'load lugger', which would also explain why they jettisoned the oversized 40 PICS carburettor rather quickly in favour of the smaller 34 PICS for better tractability and economy. ( For the record, I do not believe that any of the 602 engines made peak power at 6,750 rpm, only the relatively short stroke A79/1 435cc engine is quoted by Citroen as needing to go that high for peak power. Keep trying that with a 602 engine and you'll be looking for a replacement crankshaft sooner rather than later. ) ken samfieldhouse wrote: I doubt it. Club sticker and Kelso gear knob. Presumably someone knows who had this.

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
And judging by the amount of cars he sells, he should be registered as a business seller. I wonder how much income tax he has paid? I expect he lives in a mobile home

The clue is in the line "i brought the car purely to sell" , honest enough if you ask me.
