Re: Pushrod tubes (Classic schoolboy error).
Thanks to everybody on here and a mate who runs a precision engineering company I've finally fitted these pushrod tubes.
Thanks must also go to Roy at Ecas for his kind words, sympathy and lightening quick delivery.
They eventually went into place following a right good cleaning up of the holes with some emery cloth wrapped around a drill, bunging the tubes in the freezer and suspending the heads on some stiff wire from the roof of my garage directly in front of my big fook-off gas space heater until they were at something approaching 200 degrees (according to my ace lazer thermometer that I’ve had for years and never used for anything more productive than measuring the temperature of my own pee once, following too much whisky).
The tubes then tapped firmly into place using the bit of steel bar that my mate Dave had engineered to fit perfectly in the end of them as a drift.
So I eventually got through two sets of tubes to replace one set. It's been an expensive and frustrating couple of weeks.
Rest assured I’ll be much more careful putting the heads in place in the future.
I don’t ever want to have to do this job again.
Ever.
Ever.
