i was JUST 18 when i had my first rta, not my fault, but i was blamed for it. 6 months later i had another, again not my fault, total right off. Unfortunately both were in 2cvs, but at least the latter i received compo which bought the van. I recently changed my insurance to FJ as they had the cheapest policy by a long shot, looks like ill be looking again!

Yes, its outrageous, but I've got other shit to worry about really. When it comes down to it, if you can't/aren't prepared to pay, pipe down and get the 'kin bus innit.

Like your shed blowing away? yeah you're right, £2000 is worth not sitting behind people that smell off piss/fags/wet dog all in one

Ok thinking about it it's probably true, cos I know three people, all who passed after me last year have already written off their car.

Not just blokes! When I passed my test, at least 3 girls in my year wrote their brand new cars off within months of passing their tests (yeah, I went to that kind of a school). I think this had more to do with them being thick Sloany blondes than being girl racers, though.

I had two accidents within the first year - again, neither my fault, honest! Someone rear ended me while I was stopped in stationary traffic on top of a hump-back bridge, and the other was a foreign git getting his roundabout priorities wrong, causing me to slam on the brakes to try to avoid hitting him, as I was already on the roundabout when he decided to plough on from my left, regardless... So yeah, in a 2CV, stopping in time wasn't ever going to happen.

Johnny Forrin wasn't insured/traceable in Spain, but I got £600 for the minor damage* to Poppy (which was ironically what we paid for her the year before) out of the independent insurance fund that all the insurance companies have to chip in to to cover against uninsured drivers. (Don't know if that still exists, but when I mentioned it to Sheila's Wheels as a good reason for not buying their additional 'protection against uninsured drivers' add-on, the guy seemed to tacitly acknowledge its existence).

* This explains why her rear sweeps are still 90% filler and the front n/s wing still bent - figured we'd keep the money for when (not if) her chassis/engine went. ;P

EDIT: I think it was the Uninsured Driver Agreement / Untraced Driver Agreement (probably the latter):
http://www.motor-accident-claims.co.uk/motor_insurers_bureau.html
http://www.mib.org.uk/Customer+Services/en/Accidents+in+the+UK/Uninsured+Drivers+Agreement/Uninsured+Drivers.htm
We didn't go to court - they just sent out an assessor, and sent us a cheque. WIN!
