Post Re: The O/T thread!
Is that all it took? A polo?

Many years ago I used to know a girl called Marge - wasn't her real name she just spread easy. My son told me the other week that he had gone to his new girlfriends house but she wasn't home. Her sister, (who is drop dead gorgeous) answered the door and asked him in. She whispered to him "I have feelings for you - we're alone, can we make love?"

My son immediately turned around, walked out the door and back to his car. His girlfriend was stood by the car and threw her arms around him, smothering him in kisses she said "You have just won my trust!"

And the moral of that story? Always keep your condoms in the car. ;)

Smiffy, If she'd have opened the door - I'd have chanced bareback....Oooowww...knickers...knackers ...knockers!

Condoms are funny. While your here Smiffy - I've been thinking. About words, or more accurately, about acronyms. You see I have this idea that the government are trying to trick us. They keep trying to frighten us, and when we get frightened we allow them to introduce additional powers which are infringements to our civil liberties. Infringements that we would otherwise resist.

Remember A.I.D.S.? 'Wear a condom or you die!' Very scary.

Then more recently there was S.A.R.S. (Severe acute respiratory syndrome) remember that? That thing was supposed to sweep the world, millions would die!

Now I got to thinking. In medical terminology, 'Severe' and 'Acute' mean the exactly the same thing, so why would the government call that epidemic 'severe-acute'... it just doesn't make sense. Then I realised what it was. If they had named it correctly, it would have been an Acute respiratory syndrome epidemic, or A.R.S.E.

Do you think I'm on to something?

Hahah, I wish they called it A.R.S.E.
As regards to Severe and Acute, I thought severe can be used to describe anything as being bad (in my head). But I think acute is a combination of severity and amount of time (in the case or a virus or infection anyway) so if it was acute respiratory syndrome it would refer to it being a short term thing. I'm just thinking of it in the same way as radiation poisoning etc.

You're right Joe. Acute usually refers to the gestation period or duration of onset, and severe relates to the...er... degree of severity. But - if I was factual all the time I could'nt ask such dumb questions. :P

I like words. Here's one for Squeeze.

Squeeze I heard about a Jamaican boxer that has gone back in the ring after losing both his feet in a nasty accident. Apparently he's doing very well, so far he's had six fights without defeat.
