Re: My new 2CV, running restoration. In theory..
While I'm saving moneys for new floors, sills and bulkhead, I thought I'd get on with some "free" things. Decided to commit suicide. Scrounged a pair of B pillars and rear door hinges.. And proceeded to unpick the door hinge first of all Welded it to the edge of the front door Dressed Unpicked the hinge section of the pillar Cut it down the length to remove the section Positioned and tack welded to the front of the existing B pillar, clamping it to the rear hinge, using a nut as a spacer to obtain a uniform gap Then seam welded down the length Welds dressed, catch bracket removed, and all etch primed. Fitted the door and it wouldn't shut fully so I cut a sliver off the edge of the door and welded it up. On looking at the rear doors, they are like this too. I won't be fitting the rubber to the rear of the front doors, same as the front of the rears. It works and EVERYTHING!! Blanked the old handle hole, keeping the hole to relocate to the front. Will figure out the latch and handle at some point.. Also shortened the lamp bar by 45mm each side. Considering deleting the rear quarter window.. likely would use metal though, and not masking tape. More at some point in the vague future.

ps how are you filling in the rear quarterlights? it looks amazing, are you going to top it off with a old fashion hood? (no boot lid)

Nah I'm keeping the boot lid, I like the practicality and the fact I won't need to shell out a load of cash on a new 'ood. Not sure what I'm doing with the rear lights yet though, so rear end design is not certain. One things for sure, the horrible trailer board rear lights are for the bin.

Thanks people, James, get the the bits and pay me the money and yeah sure I'll do it took me half a day to do that side, but a lot of that was figuring it all out, the other side should be easy. Saying that I've not got round to the catch and handle bit yet, I'd like to order up all the right bits from Club Cassis, but that costs a small fortune.

pbpeter, seems that someone from 'a land down under' is working on the same alteration to his 2CV. < http://snail.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.ph ... orum=snail > Not quite sure what Harley means by a bear claw catch, but if it's something which is going to hold the front doors closed better than the original 'cupboard door' catches, I reckon it's a darn good idea. If they do let go, they make quite a mess, especially if it's on a van. I've driven a 1950s 2CV about 30 miles each year for MOT and was so worried about the doors blowing open that I used to have a couple of luggage straps hooked between them... ken.

Ken "bear claw " is the modern car latch where the pawl (sp) rotates around the fixed part its supposed to be anti burst as there is also the keyway element that means it cant be pulled apart

Olli's old van used a caribiner clip to hold the doors shut.
