Post Smoking when cold
When I start my car for the first time in the day, it smokes, only once it's fired up for a second, it doesn't look blue, but it's hard to tell.. It's quite a lot of smoke but only lasts a second or two,
I've recently done the tappets, and adjusted the timing, could it be any of these things?
ALS did an oil change and put slightly too much oil in the engine (2-3 mm over top mark ) could it be that? Im going to drain an egg cups worth out tomorrow do the level Is correct
Advice appreciated and awaiting ;)

Tell your car smoking is bad for it and you can get patches now to help quit ;)

If you want a sensible answer pm me.

Always found A series to smoke from cold start - just a good puff of blue on start up and then nothing else - this was even on my new cars back in the 70's and 80's - I'm sure someone with a more technical bent than me will say its due to the oil pooling in the heads/crankcase/valve stems or something......

I'd have thought that it's a sign of 'wear and tear', but nothing to worry about if it disappears very quickly after starting up.
A set of new rings and valve stem seals will usually sort it...

2mm to 3mm too much oil on the dipstick is unlikely to be the cause.

Ken.

Also a light dusting of mayonnaise in the breather. This could be due to the timing though, or the fact I ran the engine for 20 miles then did 2 5 second rubbings of the engine in succession to see if it smoked, but it didn't, but may of caused the mayonaissE.
I just hinged car in the garage and it has t run for a good hour or two and it didn't smoke at all,

Your iphone amuses me.. :D
I get the occasional big puff of smoke on startup but it's never bothered me.. put it down to valve stem seals or something of the sort. Odd that it just started mind..
'Mayo' is something I've seen too last winter. Just a bit of moisture in the oil..

It makes me want to smash it to pieces
It may just be random Mayo, from my random engine running.
Incidentally, did you have a muff on last winter?

I will do valve stem seals and maybe rings too,,
Although compression is very good so probably won't touch the rings

I did indeed have my muff on but she probably could've used an oil cooler shroud too with temps to -20C..? Something to consider this winter ;)
Good luck dude!
