What if the specialist was told to do that kind of job due to no money or didn't care about correct repair. One can not always blame the repairer.

Agreed. But not if you have just bought an £8000 car off him.

We should be naming and shaming these 'specialists' -

We try!

We get threats of legal action.
Then, said specialists have their loyal following and apologists stirring it up with poor ideas about automotive eingineering or because theuy have had some cheap gear off them.

Too much bandwidth has been used up arguing the toss as to whether flex is good etc etc

Im fed up with it all, I will tell people what I think if Im asked about certain businesses but not publicly.

I like to spend less on something scruffy, this makes it much harder to hide anything. It's possible I went a bit too far the other way when I bought my Charleston (overpriced at £500), but hell, £500 isn't much for 8 months' motoring these days, even if I did scrap it when the MOT ran out. Trouble is, it's getting much harder to find scruffy £500 cars as they're all being painted and stuffed with filler ...

link didn't work :)

Been to look at the chassis. It's near me.

It's a rolling 'Wheels' chassis. Tyres appear good. Steering rack good. Track rod adjusters could do with replacing. Some butcher with mole grips has chewed them up a bit.

If I had room to store it, I would have bought it. I've given the chap's phone no. to Meshking, so he may have the lead on you all, but here it is anyway.

Colin 07799 116116. Lives in Woking, Surrey.

He has other panels, glass etc. as well as the gearbox on ebay. Engine has been sold.

I was sorely tempted, but getting it back to my place was tricky. It's now on ebay:

I got James over to my work this evening, had a look at the car. The only welding it's likely to need is the bit under the bulkhead and seatbox that sit on the chassis, so we'll see what we can do about that after we've got the body off. We're going to do the swap in our barn and intewnt to do it nwithin a day. We're not cocking about fitting new flywheels, pistons, shiny bollocks or anything else we're simply going to spend a day changing the chassis and getting it back to structurally sound so James can wank himself off doing all the other stuff on his own at his own pace. Basically, Sam and I are incredibly nice people, borderline legends I'd say, so we're going to help James sort out this standard, run of the mill, everyday 2cving problem so he can regain faith in the wonderful world of 2cving whilst Sam and i take the piss out of him for looking like an albino rake.

Hooray for us, I think.

Hurrah!

( but remember Rus is fickle and next week he will have a tourettes outburst because something mechanical dosen't work and he will throw all his money at something like a Hilman Avenger which only fires on 3)

Ps if you get the wheels chassis maybe replace all the structural TUV approval pop rivets with something a bit more permanent 00h bolts or weld perhaps

This weeks top probable bargain purchases:

Peugeot Partner van (£100)

1960 Mini minor (swap for 2cv)
