James stop fannying about with vent flaps and pistons
If you want to have some fun with a 2cv next year get a bloody chassis under it this winter.
Ask around its surprising what people have lying about. You will pick up a second hand galvo for the same sort of price as set of pistons an barrels which will be less than useless paperweights if you have no car to put them in. Spend this loan wisely or you will have frittered it away and be faced with a re chassis and no cash - you D*lly will then be worth nowt and you really will have lost the love

If no one moved forward and waited for things to go wrong we'd still be scratching our arses in caves! Your car do what you want. As for the cave man bit leave trying to make them faster and better to car / engines that aren't daily drives, because you'll improve and improve and improve to a point where its so fast and so impractical and un useable that it's been a complete waste of fucking time. Been there, done it, will do it some more, but NOT on cars that are needed and have other major problems like a failed chassis.

I'm not suggesting I do russ, I'm not dismissing any points, But the engines out the car, when the chassis is changed, The oppertunity is there! Within the month I'll have all the bits, ready to do it,

Oh well That doesn't mean it needs doing instantly. My car is slow as shit, as are a good proportion remaining 2cvs. I don't have the money for new barrells and pistsons, and even if I did I think I'd prefer to go to Spa. It can wait. However, the chassis can't.

 Re: 1988 2cv D*lly bits and bobs
James, I'm very similar - I like to do all the jobs on my car at Once and get them out the way. So I feel where you're coming from.
On this occasion - leave the pistons. You really don't need to take the engine out to do it.
We're happy to help on the day you suggested, but let's focus on the chassis, do a good job and get it done, rather than faffing with everything else. We'll only have about 13 hours of daylight anyway.

Gahhhhh I'm not suggesting I do the pistons Tomorow cos my car is slow. It doesn't NEED doing, I was suggesting as we have the chassis change kill two birds with one stone, strike while the iron is hot However as you pointed out 13 hours isn't enOugh,

 Re: 1988 2cv D*lly bits and bobs
Its not as if taking an engine out at a later date is going to take a long time. I am sure there are records as to how quick people can remove an engine but it is possible in 30 minutes without breaking into a sweat.
Whilst doing your chassis make sure you copper-slip every nut and bolt as you reassemble. This will save you loads of time with future maintenance.
