OK, I know this is going to come across as a very simple, stupid question.....

what size is the nut on the exhaust manifold? 10mm won't look at it and 11 is as sloppy as a sloppy thing. its a little rusty so I'm assuming its probably a worn 11mm ......

I have a pretty comprehensive tool collection both imperial and metric, but I'm finding the 2cv uses some funny sizes....

It *was* 11mm but after years of getting hot/cold and rusting away it won't be any more.

ok, so now its off.......Should I replace the studs or leave well alone? The exposed threads are knackered but obviously the bits where the nut was is fine......(this is all on the spare engine btw)

Id be tempted to leave it.

the back of the stud is exposed and so when you use the mole grips( because there isnt enough to get 2 nuts on it to lock it, alternative is to put an M8 or 10 nut over the stud and weld it up-removing the stud while the area is still hot) to turn it out you drag the corroded end through and it rips up the thread.

I always have a helicoil on standby when taking the studs out.

Brass M7 available from ECAS and lambretta supplies, lots of copper grease on assembly
