 Re: 2011 24hr Snetterton
Something you learn when you're part of a pit crew that Sean's touched on there is the interesting relationship between mechanic and driver. I can think of plenty of examples of a driver claiming the car understeers too much/is too soft/has spongy brakes/isn't fast enough at X part of the circuit etc etc, and mechanics simply pretending to alter something/tweak something/adjust something and send the driver back out only to be told at the next pit stop how much better the car felt and how we should have set it up like that from the start and that they know best etc, when in reality it was all in their heads.*
*this does not apply to anybody driving for team lumaca.

It certainly wasn't meant to bebtaken personally and I know I'm not alone in feeling grateful that we had so many kind offers of help, but I felt priority had to be given to those who did such a great job last year. If you want, I'm fairly sure I can find a few teams that need more help and can put you in touch, I would certainly recommend going along even if you don't work for anybody. Thats fine Russell and understand that you want same team as last yr and no.s are limited Just think that newbies should also be given a chance in a small role Jon

 Re: 2011 24hr Snetterton
It's nothing to do with being a 'newbie' it's about having too many people in a small space with nothing to do. It's a recipe for disaster and we're very careful to make sure we have 'enough' people. Too many will probably be even more problematic than not enough.
If you're that desperate to work for a team then try the racing forums matchmaker thread or simply put up a post offering your skills. There's plenty of teams that will be looking for people with 2cv experience to help them.

As I've already said, whilst we're immensely grateful for the offers of help we've received-it really can get to "Too many cooks spoil the broth" status all too easily!
As Russ and Ken have both said, there's a "matchmaker" thread over on the racing club website where there will almost certainly be teams looking for volunteers of assistance-not everybody is as lucky as we are in that respect!
Also, as I've already said, some of the best support you can give is just going along, saying hello to teams at 3 in the morning in torrential rain and cheering the drivers on down the back straight as their concentration starts to wain.
Jon, if you really do want to be involved, I may be able to set you up with someone who's hoping to compete for his first time-let me know mate.

 Re: 2011 24hr Snetterton
Not entirely Snetterton related but, we couldn't do Snet with the car in the state it was in at the end of Oulton Park back in March. So, today saw me heading down to Lumaca I2F HQ in the old trusty BX to try and find out what was broken in the steering and get the front end tidied up a bit. The steering was nice and simple but has outlined something we really need to do and should've done a long time ago-the bolts holding the track rod end onto the hub were loose and the weld had fractured. It was good to find that was all it was-I'm sick of building bloody steering racks! While I was sorting the steering out, I replaced the slightly dented wheel...... However, on removing the tyre (which still wasn't completely flat) I was pleased to find the tyre was still okay on inspection. Then was the small matter of the remodelled bodywork. So, here's some before and after pics. Before After Before After I tried to push out all the dents the best I could and the only bits I replaced were the fan, the fan guard, the grille and the bent wheel. And, the finished product for today....
