It's not the same stuff at all apparently. Maybe comes from the same refineries but certainly treated differently, maybe its different additives or something but i have heard of enough people getting problems - (mostly sporadically admittedly,apart from the time there was a string of broken down cars who all turned out to have filled up at the same supermarket near me  )- from supermarket petrol to want to avoid it myself. Certainly had nasty pinking from it enough times on 2 stroke scooters too where i dont get it from other outlets, i know 2cv's aren't that fussy but that's enough for me to avoid it
