Post D582 THR '87 white spesh
With the Caban still in the throws of a very long restoration I wanted to try and find an A series to fill the gap....and yesterday collected 'Thumper' an '87 spesh, with a brand new MOT and in pretty good shape for the £1500 I paid. Its got 102k on the clock, but has a (oil filled) replacement chassis, replacement engine, and although a bit cosmetically challenged, is by far the fastest A series I've had. Driving back from Surrey to Kent yesterday on the M25 was a breeze and put a big fat grin on my face again.

Having lost both my parents in the last 18 months, I have moved back to the family home...the house has been in the family for 100 years, and I grew up chugging around the fields in an 850 Mini, and later numerous Dyanes. We are very lucky to have a few acres, and the Spesh has been bought, not as a 'show and shine' ... but as a bit of a work horse. Its got a tow bar, so we can use it to get the hay in for the animals, and hopefully get a chain harrow and paddock roller hooked up as well. At the same time it will be a decent run around...anyway enough ramblings...here are some pics from yesterday-Wilbert the Clydesdale and Henry the Shire seem to approve....2 horses for 2 horses!

Lovely photos, looks like a half decent car for the money too.

Nice photos, indeed. Especially the Trois Chevaux ones :) .

Good to see that a decent one can still be bought for not too-silly money too.

There is something very right about a 2CV working on the land.

Thanks for the comments. having spent several hours today giving the car a good wash and scrub I am amazed it is not a leaker....nothing came in around the vent / wiper spindles .... at all :o The back doors are fooked, but will last another year. I've had a good 20 + A-series in my time, but somehow this one makes me grin wider than the rest....dead chuffed. And it's even more refreshing to buy something that is honest & fair at a fair price. After all that was the orignal design brief in the first place !

Post Re: D582 THR '87 white spesh
So a week into having the white Spesh.... not much to report....left in the garage all week, but came out on Saturday, and went down to Bodiam. Journey down fine, but on the way back, Thumper's exhaust started blowing like a prossey on speed, so after investigation ( with the exhaust not the prossey !) discovered the nearside exhaust clamp had worked itself loose. A few minutes tightening ( again the exhaust not the prossey) resolved the problem.

And so today, with a huge amount to do on the fields, decided to start breaking Thumper into a wee bit of work...pics below...light work really ... moving a few hundred chestnut poles for the fencing ... all done in an hour or so...shifted from one side of the land to the other.

After some thought, have decided to replace the fooked back doors....2 to be found and a quick spray up. The roof is also pretty poor, so may have to find another...some pics ..
