You'd be better off wiring it up as an oil pressure light.

Would a 'normal' oil pressure switch wire straight in?

No sender on an M4.

Yeah, they are the smaller mounting studs at that age.

Sorry if it's a bit late - haven't been for a look for a while...

sam,
that damper mounting pin should look like one of these.

Not sure whether it would have been the larger type, as some early vans (and Amis) used the smaller (12mm bore) damper mountings.

Just seen Sean's post, all ( Citroen ) chassis mountings are M14 x 1.5 thread

Also, 'the zit' on the dash - what's it do. There's a bulb in there but it never comes on :?

When's it supposed to come on?

Ill change the bulb and see if that makes a difference.

And why is it so... HUGE?[/quote]

It's to warn you of lack of charging - the wiring includes a solid state relay, which was what was fitted at the time, and took some finding, I can tell you... Ex-agent NOS.. At the alternator end are two female connectors which fit on the two pins which you find on older Ducellier units, in case anyone had ever wondered what they're for.

Of course, if the alternator doesn't have them, you've nowt to join up to, and you never will know whether it's stopped charging. Until you run out of steam, that is.

You'd have a job wiring the light up to the non-existent oil pressure switch!

Sams going to put a hybrid in it with an m28 bottom end, which has an oil pressure switch in it.

That's the way to go. With some 9:1 pistons too.

Thanks for the info on the Zit Pete :) hopefully it'll never come on!

It should come on when you switch the ignition on, and go out when the engine starts.

Ish. Charging's always been a bit funny on Het - back to that shonky wiring loom... The charge light is driven from the two "extra" pin terminals on the alternator, via an odd solid-state relay. Pete A's the man to speak to about it.

So now that I'm a little refreshed having had a short break from working on Hetty I went at her today with renewed vigor!

Spanners and Russ kindly colluded between them and produced the clippy things I needed to attach the wing valences to the bulkhead. It's amazing how much they reduce engine noise!

I paid a visit to ex-Hetty ownder TooMany2CVs who (amongst other goodies) gave me the fuel tank cover I've been longing for :D

My Dad kindly painted this and the spare wheel cover too.

They look pretty good. Need to get some nuts on the tank cover as its pretty warped but it'll be fine.

602 and HJBHarry kindly gave and transported to me 2 door catches. This almost cost Harry is freedom and I believe he narrowly avoided becoming intimately aquatinted with the Gendarmes... so thank you chaps :D

I'm having the same issues Viking had that the repro wheel cover has totally the wrong diameter for the catches to fit :? I think I may be able to transplant the ones 602 got me but this requires further investigation.

The main job today was more painting.

Hetty has quite a few rust spots, all surface rust and none in MoT dodgey areas. I'm really fed up with painting and getting it matched etc... plus the results are never as good as I'd like.

As Adrian said when I bought her, without a LOT of expensive professional bodywork she's never going to look like new.

Added to this my own opinion that I don't actually want her to look shiny: she's an old, well traveled van and I want her to wear these scars and marks with pride!

Today I discovered lacquer. And boy to I love it!

It's just so easy to apply, dries hard, waterproof and look (I think) fantastic.

As you can see I've also painted the vent flap and had some lettering done :)

All the lettering was done by Tom of http://stores.ebay.co.uk/tomlikesstickers I'm really chuffed with the results, plus the cost is very reasonable. He normally does stuff like this:

but I emailed him with my requirements and he was happy to oblige - he sent me proofs and everything. Highly recommended!

Hetty's really starting to come together - can't wait to get her on the road!!
