 Re: 1988 2cv D*lly bits and bobs
Morning upadate on the old bastard car starter motor died at the train gates a few weeks back, which was quite convienent, because i hadnt excersied in a few years so i decided to go for a run, and whilst running thought may as well push the car... anyway new starter motor fitted, whilst at go kartin sam and chris noticed a panels are starting to buckle, chassis collapse sign, so made a trip to matt damper to get him to look, we jacked the car up on a block of wood on the axel bolts and gently bounced the front of the car, you can see the a panels move and see the kick ups at the front moving, looks like its time for a new chassis, so because i only have a single garage and my dads stuck up and doesnt want the neighbours to think less of us for me taking the car apart, im having to get someone to do the chassis change for me, arse, as id liked to of done i myself, but anyway welding needs to be done so ill get Daras Rich in worthing to do the job,,, ive spent much time changing my mind as to which chassis to get, i know which one im getting, its not from a bank, i can tell you that, but im not saying much more as i dont want a chassis thread blabber from everyone, (no offence!!) while the body is off im going to put zinc plated floors in, and it needs a new bulkhead, as its pretty rusted (convienently hidden by the red oxcide!) now being a dick that i am, ive spent all my wages in the past few months, leaving me with no money to sort this problem out, i have savings but im saving them for a deposit on a house in the future, luckily (well un luckily) we had a major family bereahvement (spelling) recently, (my grandad) and my parents came into a bob or two (not anything interesting, not like im making it sound!) so my parents are lending me money interest free, to get the car done, id like to of saved a shed load and done it myself but by the time i rent somewhere and make a balls up of doing it i might as well of paid someone to do it!
for the time being im taking it easy over bumps etc, im in talks with daras as to when the car can get done, but im hoping october time intime for the mot!
whilst the engine is out, i think im going to put dyane pistons in, (the higher compression ones in) and maybe the heavy flywheel i got of rob ventflaps, (and of course the new clutch to go with it!) all this is going to cost me a fortune, and some people say why bother but i love my little car, and i think in the long run itll be worth it, as im hoping after this the car will be sound as a pound for many years to come! im sure in the long run other bits will fall apart but the main bits of the car should be fine i cant decide whether to treat it to new front wings and rear n/s wing, as the fronts are a bit battered and have a hole in both of them, realistlicly i wont bother!! anyway, i was starting to get fed up with the car but i cant be arsed to get fed up! other jobs are new wiper spindles, seal vent flap to the seal, and sort out the wanky arial fitting!
